For those who wonder what happens inside ladies’ rooms, look no further. Dingo and Khanna, the sassy women who star in Yash Raj Films’ web series ‘Ladies Room’ take you boldly and barefacedly where no man has gone before.
Saba Azad and Shreya Dhanwantary play the parts of Dingo and Khanna with an effortless lightness, puncturing every stereotype about the demure Indian woman as they hole up in 6 different bathrooms, mouthing gaalis with élan and talking about everything from PMS to the G-spot and pregnancy scares to tripping on MDMA; entirely devoid of ladylike frills, and punctuated by everyday disasters, they are consequently unapologetically realistic.
Borrowing heavily from college memories, writers Neha Kaul Mehra and Ratnabali Bhattacharjee use razor-sharp wit and smart dialogue to address topics that are relevant to women. And thanks to the director, Ashima Chibber, the series is an unfiltered, uncensored portrayal of Indian women – honest, cynical, empowered and modern, who can laugh at themselves.
And with 7 million views and counting, it’s clear that the combined effort of writing, acting, directing have paid off; the Ladies Room is clearly quite the riot.
