We4You records audio books for students with visual impairments

For the millions of students in Odisha who are visually impaired, getting access to study material is a challenge. A shortage of Braille printers in the state means that there is limited or no access to textbooks and exam study material. Realising this, We4You, a Bhubaneswar based NGO, decided to start recording audio books for the students to use.

What prompted We4You to take up this project? Abhaya Mohanta, We4You’s founder, in an interview stated, “Education is the basic right of every child, and every child in India who is deprived of education must be helped to bring the best in him/her. That is the vision with which we are working.”

The NGO’s volunteers include working professionals, college students and homemakers from across the country; together, they have recorded more than 10,000 audio books so far, and helped thousands of students in Odisha and Jharkand as a result.

We4You also conducts workshops and training sessions on spoken English, computer literary and personality development to help those who are visually impaired gain the skills needed to gain employment.
