Huawei India and SOS Children’s Village ‘Daksha’ Program set to drive digital education in rural India

More than half of India’s population lives in rural areas and off-the-grid villages, making access to digital technology and Internet connectivity for children from these areas difficult. ‘Daksha’, Huawei India’s corporate social responsibility program in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages India, aims to bridge this divide. The MNC is set to provide easy access to digital education to more than 982 children in SOS villages across the country.

Speaking about the initiative, Huawei India’s CEO Jay Chen stated that the company was committed to giving back to the community, helping to support the Digital India campaign initiated by the government.

Twenty family homes in SOS Children’s Village Greenfields in Haryana have been equipped with computers and working internet facilities to encourage the use of digital media among children. Daksha will do the same for SOS villages in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana and Tamil Nadu as well.

Huawei India’s role in imparting education and helping the society is not limited to Daksha. The company also runs an e-Hope program that distributes computers and tablets to Government schools, and it has also set up innovation labs for engineering colleges.

It’s clear that this company believes that any encumbrance in the society can only be prevented with introducing digital education to the masses and is leaving no stones unturned in taking this initiative forward.
