The melting pot called Art Bengaluru 2016

If you thought Bangalore was only about all things tech, you are mistaken. It’s also home to the biggest art fest in South India, Art Bengaluru, which is in its seventh edition this year. Art Bengaluru, held at the UB City Mall, is where you see art in all its forms and hues, not restricted to the canvas only.

The driving force behind this cauldron of art forms is Uzma Irfan, Director, Corporate Communications, Prestige Group, one of South India’s largest builders and Founder, Sublime Galleria. Her vision was to “change the way the 21st Century perceives art and life.” That is why, artworks and exhibits are found rubbing shoulders with high end restaurants and luxury brand stores here, showcasing the work of artists to urbanites who might not be true blue art aficionados, but can appreciate it nonetheless.

And it’s not just art, the festival encompasses science, technology, philosophy and lifestyle. The verticals that form the crux of the festival include performance art, speaking sessions and workshops as well, and this year, cinema has also been added into the mix.

Last year the theme of the festival was ‘Paradigm Shift’, promoting a change in the way art is depicted, taking it beyond conventional paintings and sculptures. The blend of technology and art brought about interesting and innovative ways of artistic expression, such as interactive installations, which was the highlight of the festival. Suresh Jayaram, a prolific artist and well-known art curator, curated the exhibition for the festival.

The festival is currently being held at UB City and runs till August 28. There are workshops for kids and adults on photography, light painting, cocktail making, organic farming, baking, pottery, flower arrangement and interesting events like a tea appreciation event, and also an intern program for senior citizens.
